Bottles of Stille Nacht Reserva

Stille Nacht, aged for years in wine barrels

Stille Nacht Reserva

  • 12%
  • Golden, barrel-aged
  • Refermented in the bottle

The complex, golden Stille Nacht gets a second life here: at least two years in barrels that held wine before, into a deeper, woodier and slightly vinous beer. Not a yearly edition, but a release every few years, each with its own barrel number.

Tasting notes

Aroma

Oak, vanilla, dried fruit, citrus peel and a hint of wild yeast.

Taste

Lightly sour and fruity, with candied orange, wood and a soft vinous touch that trades the original Stille Nacht sweetness for more depth.

Finish

Long and warming, with the high strength well hidden behind wood and fruit.

Did you know...

  • We use wine barrels from France, Spain and Italy, and each barrel only once.
  • Every month we top up the barrels, so no air gets to the beer.
  • The label says which barrel the beer comes from, for example "barrique 11".
  • Store the bottles upright and cool.

About the barrel ageing

Ever since Kris put the first Oerbier into sherry casks in 1998, barrel ageing has been the base of our whole Reserva line. Stille Nacht Reserva is not a yearly release: every few years the brewery puts a selected batch into barrels that held wine for at least two years, before it is bottled as a numbered Reserva (per "barrique"). The ageing time varies on purpose — sometimes two years, sometimes longer — until the beer has the complexity we want. The bottles are limited and mostly sold directly at the brewery.
